Who's making the headlines today?!

Ty Pennington

Ty Pennington

Pennington was born October 19, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia. Ty earned his undergraduate degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Atlanta and worked his way through school as a carpenter. After graduation, he continued work as a carpenter while taking night classes in painting and sculpture at the Atlanta College of Art. It wasn't long before Ty was combining his love of the arts and carpentry by working as a set designer on films such as Leaving Las Vegas. Ty has modeled for J. Crew, Swatch, Body Glove and Lands End, and appeared in television advertisements for Diet Coke, Macy's and Levi's, to name a few. When not on the set of Trading Spaces, Ty practices his craft as owner and designer of his own online furniture company, Furniture Unlimited (aka F.U.), headquartered in Los Angeles. Recently, Ty relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. He appears in the independent film, The Adventures of Ociee Nash, playing the part of Wilbur Wright. He recently finished his first book, Ty's Tricks (Hyperion, 2003). The book is a mixture of handyman tips, how-to projects and hilarious home improvement dos and don'ts from Ty himself. Ty first discovered his love of carpentry while building a two-story tree house in his back yard, much to his mother's dismay. Growing up, Ty loved to surf, ride his skateboard, and play soccer. In fact, Ty still loves to surf, skate-board, and play soccer. He also enjoys playing the guitar, and has a one-man band called Barney. When performing as his alter ego, Ty sings and plays the guitar while decked out in a white leisure suit lit up with Christmas lights. Ty also combines his artistic talents and creative abilities making mixed-media art, such as the mockumentary detailing the life and works of fictional artist Adis Pozal (played by Ty in goggles).

Favorite Pieces: The platform bed made out of Brazilian cherry for Hildi; monkey desk for Frank; and Thai chili lounge for Genevieve number among his favorites. Ty has also created a walnut bed for Sharon Osbourne and a bed bug for Nick, Jr. magazine.

Quotable Ty: "I love the art of creation, whether it's creating cool furniture, art, comedy, paintings, film, music or whatever. Let's just say, I'm a 'pro at creating!' And to me, that's life itself. I'm here to have fun, and enjoy the ride."

Meet Ty Pennington

Meet Ty Pennington, presenter and team leader of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Lovable jock, handy carpenter and owner of a killer set of pecs, he's also possessed with an inexhaustible supply of energy and is always the one to boost the team's flagging morale at 3am.
An impressive list of achievements can be found on the Pennington CV. Specialising in painting and sculpture at the Atlanta College of Art, Ty financed his studies by honing his carpentry skills. The combination of art and carpentry found him work as a set designer for films such as Leaving Las Vegas.

Approached by a modelling scout while at college, lucrative modelling and advertising contacts with Levi's and Macy's were swift to follow. He also landed the job of thirsty builder in a Diet Coke ad, possibly where he developed his penchant for working shirtless.

He founded the online furniture company Furniture Unlimited where he sells his designs, which look pretty good to us. And his first book, Ty's Tricks, published by Hyperion in 2003, hit the New York Times bestseller list. Clearly one of life's doers, acting is what he's got his heart set on next and he's moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. He recently played the part of Wilbur Wright in the independent film The Adventures Of Ociee Nash.

On constant overdrive, any spare time he has is spent surfing, skateboarding and playing soccer. He's also a keen guitarist and in Barney, his one-man band, he performs in a white tracksuit lit up with Christmas tree lights. Sadly we jest not.

But he does have a sensitive side and a classic Ty-ism is his 'show me some love' bear hug. In his role as teamleader of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition he's a determined peacemaker (witness his mediation of several Preston v Connie showdowns) and he frequently has a tear in his eye when reuniting families with their new homes.

Ty Pennington and his team have a new addition

Two New Designers join forces on the hit ABC reality series, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Ed Sanders and Eduardo Xol have been added to the design team of the ABC Television Network's hit reality series, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." In upcoming episodes, they will add their creative magic by radically changing deserving families' homes in just seven days - including every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping.

Hailing from the UK, Ed Sanders will lend his carpentry expertise to the homes of the featured families, while Eduardo Xol (pronounced "sole") will bring his landscape and architectural designs to the various projects.

The popular award-winning series is enjoying unprecedented success in its second season. Currently one of television's most-watched shows, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has earned, in addition to a 2004 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Program, a People's Choice Award nomination for Favorite Reality Show/Makeover, and recently received the award for Best Alternative/Reality Series from the Family Television Awards.

Eduardo and Ed will join design team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo (carpentry/nuts & bolts), Paige Hemmis (carpentry/creativity), Tracy Hutson (shopping/style), Michael Moloney (interiors/glamour), Constance Ramos (building/planning) and Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas).

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is President of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman.

Ty Pennington's Reality Show ''Extreme Makeover: Home Edition''

Put together one very run-down house, a deserving family, several opinionated designers, seven days and what do you get? The answer is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The show's successful first season garnered an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Program. As this ratings-rich reality series enters its second season, each self-contained episode features a race against time on a project that would ordinarily take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to totally rebuild an entire house — every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping.

The lives of the lucky families are forever changed when they learn that they have been selected to have their home walls moved, their floors replaced and even their façades radically changed. The result should be a decorator's delight… if it can be done in time.

Each episode begins with team leader Ty Pennington's now-famous "Good morning!" wake-up call, when he, along with the other designers, surprises the unsuspecting family with news that their home has been chosen to receive a makeover. Then viewers witness not only the unbelievable transformation of the house, but during the final and emotional reveal, they see how the home makeover has impacted the lives of the deserving families.

The first season of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was able to bring extreme happiness to several families. Some of those projects included enlarging the home of a couple expecting triplets, rebuilding a house for eight children who had just lost their parents, giving a facelift to an entire community whose homes were flooded during a hailstorm, and remodeling the living space of a wheelchair-bound young man by making it more accessible — which included the installation of an elevator. In addition the makeover team did a special live episode, during which they remodeled the New York apartment of two firefighters — in just 12 hours!

The design team who work their creative magic on the homes are team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo (carpentry/nuts & bolts), Paige Hemmis (carpentry/creativity), Tracy Hutson (shopping/style), Michael Moloney (interiors/glamour), Constance Ramos (building/planning) and Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas).

Ty Pennington has certainly carved out a niche for himself as the lovable, off-the-wall, hunk-of-a-carpenter and home design guru.

During his four-year stint on Trading Spaces, Ty became well-known as the cute and playful carpenter who would sometimes work shirtless. So it is not surprising that dozens of women desperately hope to catch a glimpse of Ty in action. Beyond cracking jokes, though, Ty enjoys designing, building and working with contractors and his fellow designers to help create magical homes for deserving families.

A self-proclaimed "Jack of all Trades, Master of None," Ty can add bestselling author to his vast list of skills. His first book, Ty's Tricks, published by Hyperion in 2003, was a New York Times bestseller.

In addition to being an author, Pennington has just signed an exclusive multi-year agreement with Sears. He will be partnering with Sears in a broad range of activities, including product design and development, merchandising and advertising, and is the ambassador for the Sears American Dream Campaign.
